That is why he feels happy when more and more companies make a foray into the world of . Industry gurus predict that there will be a 64% increase in the number of homes that adopt home security and alarm systems in the next five years.

This is good news for the companies and the consumers alike. Companies get to expand their market base and earn unprecedented revenues by cashing in on universal homeowners’ insecurity, while homeowners get to choose from a wide range of features and options instead of being confined to just a few options in home security.

The years 2012 and 2013 have seen a huge number of cable companies jumping on the  bandwagon toget a piece of the action. AT&T, Verizon, and now Comcast are all offering their services in the IP-Based Access Control and Home Security. In addition, recent years have also seen a number of acquisitions, deals, and mergers to combine technologies and provide better and more affordable services.

Cost

Traditional  have over the years extracted a good deal of money from the consumer’s pocket, with some popular ones costing as much as $75 to $100 a month for good coverage. However, with newer companies jumping into the competition eager to make a place, the prices have also gotten competitive and the consumers are reaping the benefits. Newer companies provide some highly competitive rates.

For instance, “Intelligent Home” by Time Warner costs $33.99 a month, with installation prices starting at $99.

Cox’s Home Security can be yours at just $29.99 a month, with installation prices at $99.

ADT’s version, called Core, has options varying from $28 to $50 a month, and you can choose one that is right for you. Installation costs here, too, are $99.

Features

This is where the real juicy bite of the apple lies. To battle the fierce competition, companies really shake up their tech-nerves to come up with some truly functional and varied features. For instance, while accessing live feed on a mobile device when you’re away from home was a luxury a few years ago but is now a standard feature in most home security services providers.

Companies allow you to customize your security systems based on your way of life and specific requirements. Cox, for instance, allows you to arm or disarm the system from anywhere in the world. ADT features a remote-controlled locking access that can help when you or your kids forget the keys, oreven when you wish to let the house cleaners in. Most companies are offering motion sensors, many offering motion-sensing lighting systems for added security, and a few companies are also introducing affordable heat-sensing systems to foil any breaking in.

With so many varied features made available, consumers can now take their pick and rest assured that your home will be protected even if you are out – and you won’t have to pay an arm and a leg for it.
