We’re a little biased here and are all about DIY security systems. Yes, there are definitely positives to having a professional come in and install a security system, but we tend to think that the positives from a DIY security system arefar greater. Do it yourself security systems are newer to the market, but in the past few years they’ve really come along and grown into a great investment.
Every security system that we’ve reviewed here that has a Do it yourself security system, we highly recommend. Sometimes a negative stigma of being “cheaper” can tag along an DIY security system’s reputation, but we think that’s just totally wrong.
It only should take you 30-60 minutes to install a DIY security system yourself. You pretty much have done all the work beforehand when you ordered your security system. You basically have to attach the sensors to the doors or windows that you want to, and then turn the system on. Pretty simple. With all this being said, professional installations are not a bad thing. I mean, you’ve got someone coming to your house to set up a security system for you. It’s reliable. We get that. But it can be frustrating having to sit around all day for some guy toshow up at your house and install the security system. And then you have to pay him plus. With a DIY security system, you wont need to do that. You can install it yourself when you feel like it and you wont need to take off of work to meet the needs of someone else’s schedule.
We prefer DIY, since it seems to add more flexibility for you. It also means that if you’re a renter or a end up moving it’s very likely that you’ll be able to pack up the security system easily and bring it with you to your next residence.
