Smart devices are becoming a pivotal part of daily life for people around the world, and this convenience and efficiency is carrying over into the world of monitoring devices. The newly released Thinx device gives users the opportunity to set customized alerts so that they’ll receive a text message to their smartphone if specific events occur.
Thinx is joining the ranks of similar devices, such as the iSmart Home and the Belkin Net Cam, all of which provide opportunities through the use of mobile devices. Thinx is essentially the combination of a smart security camera and an app, and according to the creators of Thinx, the goal is to provide options to both small businesses and individuals.
There are a number of unique alerts that a user can set on the Thinx device, including alerts of when a person enters their home, alerts of when certain areas of a home are accessed and alerts regarding the activities of babysitters or other service people within a home.
In addition to providing home security measures for individuals, Thinx can also provide small business owners with security monitoring, and alert owners of how many people are in a business at one time, or keep business owners alerted of what their employees are doing at any given time.
Even owners of larger businesses can use Thinx to keep track of areas of a business that shouldn’t be accessed by particular employees. By utilizing Thinx, it’s possible to simultaneously monitor multiple locations from one remote location.
Thinx captures videos in a 1080 HD format and offers the utmost level of encryption to protect the. The device is also equipped with a 4GB SD card, but once the recording space is full, the device will begin to record over older footage. Users of Thinx will also have the opportunity to use services such as Dropbox to store footage.
Since the connectivity of Thinx is enabled by Verizon 4G LTE, the developers of the technology provide users with the option to view snapshots and clips of important events as opposed to monitoring a constant video stream, which helps keep monthly costs from becoming too expensive. Anyone who uses Thinx will be able to access their video stream at any time with an iOS or Android-powered smartphone or tablet.
The developers of Thinx haven’t given word of an official release date, but the device is expected to cost somewhere in the $500 range, and a Verizon data plan will be required to operate the device.
Thinx is just the latest in astream of devices that provide through the use of mobile devices. From apps to using tablets as security cameras, more and more developers are designing technology that allows home and business owners to remotely access their homes and businesses from smartphones and tablets.
