IntelligentHome from Time Warner is a professionally installed and monitored that will be available in the several hundred retail stores of Time Warner nationwide. The launch of IntelligentHome began in 2011, when it was only launched in a few key markets. However, the rollout was amped up this spring with it being launched in South Carolina, North Carolina, San Antonio, Maine, and Kansas City, MO. Time Warner also recently introduced it in Wisconsin and Ohio, saying that it will also launch IntelligentHome in New York City this fall. With that, TWC’s rollout of this new product will be complete in all of the major markets in its service area.

TWC already has a huge customer following in hundreds of its retail stores all over the U.S.A. and making IntelligentHome available in these retail stores is a careful move aimed at boosting the sales. Adam Mayer, Vice President, IntelligentHome, said that TWC has already begun retailing and demonstrating IntelligentHome in these stores, and very soon there will be an army of salespeople who’ll be able to sell and install the product.

TWC also plans to market IntelligentHome through a number of other innovative channels such as inbound and outbound sales, direct mail, bill inserts, and television and print advertising, in addition to retail sales.

According to Time Warner, IntelligentHome is “an easy-to-use wireless system that offers professional home security along with flexible features that allow customers to check in on their kids or pets, arm or disarm their security system, turn on a light or set the thermostat the way they like it—all via a smartphone, laptop or in-home touch screen.”

With this, Time Warner Cable becomes another successful cable company to make a foray into home security. Once again, here is a well-known company with a distinguished presence in a huge number of households, extending its line of service to home security. The market response to IntelligentHome is predicted to be excellent owing to the already well-established brand of TWC.

At the same time, the existing seem quite unfazed by the entrance of Time Warner into the security scene. Erica Wood, co-owner and chief security officer, American Fire & Security, a professional security company based in Dayton, Ohio, says that the entrance off another cable company coming into the market will only be helpful for everyone. It will help consumers become much more aware of the products available, making it easier for security companies to upsell their products.

Lately, a number of cable companies have ventured into the home security services arena, offering and products. Some of the major entrants have been AT&T, Comcast, SecureWatch 24, Lowe’s, and The Alarm Company. The addition of Time Warner Cable to this list only makes it even more interesting for the consumers of home security.
