False alarm are a nuisance. We want to go over a few tips to reduce false alarms in your home. False alarms are easily preventable and there are a bunch of ways to avoid them. Even if you trip the alarm and it’s not necessarily because there is a problem, you have one more line of defense before the police show up. Your security system company can easily be contacted (in fact, they will contact you) and you can prevent the police from arriving in your home. Here are just a few tips to reduce false alarms:

#1: If your security system is old and hard wired, the wires might be faulty. You need to check up on the wires periodically to make sure everything is functioning properly. Call your security system company to have them run a quick diagnostic on the system. Sometimes the wiring in old security systems can mess up. If you’re at the end of a contract, consider getting a wireless alarm system.

#2: Turn off your security system as soon as you walk in the door. It’s easy to forget after a long day at work. If your security system goes off because you’ve forgotten, then the alarm will sound and it will be up to you to turn it off. Once you’ve turned it off, then your security system compay will call you to confirm if there is a problem or not. If there is no problem, then you will both be on with your day. No harm done and no cops showing up at your house when you don’t really need them.

#3: The last suggestion we have deals with getting into a routine. If you can mange your security system from afar (like on a smart phone) it will be pretty easy to turn off once you get into the habit If you have home automation it will be easy to get into a schedule because of the convenience.
